British Fencer and Y&TC Alumni, Eiger, tells us all about his exciting future

Posted on 2nd August 2023 by

Young & Talented Alumni, Eiger Swinscow, has been in touch to update us on his fencing journey so far, his plans for the future and how the grant from The Lord Lieutenant’s Fund has enabled him to travel to international competitions and buy new kit.

“As it is now the end of my 2022/2023 sabre fencing season I felt it was a good time to update you about all the key moments in the past year, which have been achieved as a result of receiving support from the Lord Lieutenants Fund.

At the start of the season I received my award and was able to purchase new European standard fencing kit and travel to my first two international competitions in Hungary and Bulgaria, fencing for the U17s British squad. This was an amazing experience.

I have recently returned from an 8 day international sabre camp in Athens with some of Europe’s best youth fencers. The countries that participated were; Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, France, Saudi Arabia and obviously the Greeks.

In a couple of weeks, I shall head out to another training camp, this time in Hungary. We shall be joined by the whole American squad before the new season begins. I have now moved up an age category into the U20s and I start my 2023/2024 season currently ranked as the highest fencer in their first season of U20s.

I am really looking forward to starting my new season with two of the first key competitions in September. I have trained really hard over the summer, both domestically and internationally, balancing this around both college work and paid work.

I want you to know that the support of the fund last year made a massive difference. It is an exciting time for British Fencing as we have been having some of the best results internationally on the mens and women’s adult circuits, in the run-up to the Olympic qualifiers in Paris 2024. I hope one day to reach this level.

I am feeling really inspired!”
