Y&TC Recipient Imogen Dowse performs at The King’s coronation

Imogen Dowse, Cellist and Chorist from St Austell, recently performed with Truro Cathedral Choir at Westminster Abbey for the coronation of King Charles III. Imogen was one of just 14 girls singers chosen from across nation to perform at this historic event, 7 of which were all from Truro Cathedral Choir.

YOUNG & TALENTED CORNWALL AWARDED ARTS COUNCIL NATIONAL LOTTERY GRANT

Young & Talented Cornwall, The Lord Lieutenant’s Fund has been awarded £15,170 through the Arts Council National Lottery Project Grants for its new Creative Writing Award. The grant was announced by Darren Henley, Chief Executive Arts Council England at a recent presentation evening at St Austell Brewery.

Congratulations to Matthew Ryall from Launceston and his Under-18 England pool team who have recently won the World Pool Championships held in Killarney, Ireland. Matthew received a grant from the Young & Talented Cornwall fund in October 2021 and 2022 to support his dreams of playing pool at a professional level.

A cello player, dinghy sailor, pentathlon athlete and sabre fencer have been recognised among Cornwall’s young talent having been awarded a share of the latest round of Young & Talented Cornwall grant funding. COUNTY’S RISING STARS BOOSTED BY YOUNG & TALENTED CORNWALL

Young & Talented Cornwall, has awarded more than £19,000 to fifteen of Cornwall’s rising stars, in the latest round of grants. A racing kart driver, an Olympic athlete hopeful, an archer, an Irish dancer and a sabre fencer are among the latest recipients of the grant funding to attend the certificate presentation evening at Truro High School for Girls, one of the corporate sponsors.

A grant from Young & Talented Cornwall helps Jamie Constance land two year post in Munich

Jamie Constance received a grant from Young & Talented Cornwall in April. Since then, he has seen his ballet career take off including performing in Geneva at the Festival of International Jeunes Ballets and landing a two-year post in Munich at Bayerisches Junior Ballet company. Young & Talented Cornwall grants over £19,000 to Cornwall’s bright young talent

Young & Talented Cornwall (Y&TC), recently held a grants panel awarding more than £19,000 to fifteen of Cornwall’s rising stars. In this recent round, recipients ranged from athletes to racing kart drivers and ballet dancers to triple-threat performers; with the grants ranging from £500 to £2,500, which will go towards recipients training, kit, equipment and travel costs.

Aspiring young actor, writer and musician from Penzance, Jowan Jacobs has been helped on his way to fulfilling his star potential by becoming the latest to receive a grant from Young & Talented Cornwall. His talents have already seen him take a lead role in the BAFTA-winning film ‘Bait’, as well as star on stage at the Minack Theatre. Jowan is studying at the Oxford School of Drama and is one of Cornwall’s brightest prospects.

2020 proved to be a challenging year for many, including Merryn trying to juggle university and her career in rugby. Angus Nile is 15 years old, a versatile swimmer and a water polo player, from St Austell who has been selected for the National Waterpolo Academy.  Recognising Angus’ potential, Young & Talented Cornwall has awarded him a grant for costs and fees for swimming and water polo championships.

Turaya makes a splash at British Swimming National Championships

Cornish swimmer, Turaya Evans, was granted £1,500 in June 2019 by Young & Talented Cornwall. A swimmer since the age of 4, Turaya holds an impressive history of achievement in the swimming pool, including a gold and silver at National British Swimming Championships.

Grace triumphs throughout an international season of running

Grace Brock has been a beneficiary of grants from Young & Talented Cornwall three times since 2015. In 2019 the young athlete has experienced unparalleled success both in Cross Country and Track running, including earning herself a GB vest.

Para-Footballer Matt gains England cap

Back in 2012, Young & Talented Cornwall awarded the aspiring footballer with cerebral palsy, Matt, £700 for travel costs to coaching sessions and competitions. Matt recently got back in contact to inform of his latest success - a selection to play for the England CP Senior Squad at the Football World Cup in Seville in July 2019.

Ben excels at major trampolining competitions

Ben Miller is a 15 year-old gymnast specialising in Trampoline. In 2018, Ben was awarded £750 from Young and Talented Cornwall towards training and competition costs. In 2019 alone he has reached the podium at international competitions in Amsterdam and Sheffield, with aspirations for future competitions also.

Emily is Amateur Ladies Golf Champion and selected for GB Team

Golfer Emily Toy produced a superb display to win the Women’s Amateur Championship at Royal County Down in Northern Ireland. This win has fast-tracked Emily through to further competitions next season, including AIG Women’s British Open, the 2020 US Women’s Open and the Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship.

Jess is accepted for full-time study at Morea Performing Arts School

17 year old dancer, Jessica Jewitt, has been awarded a place at Morea School of Performing Arts in Cheltenham, for full-time vocational study. Young & Talented Cornwall awarded Jess £1000 towards the full cost of fees to attend the school, supplementing the money she had been granted by scholarship and from Cornwall Council.

Abigail brings home the medals!

Abigail, a 14 year-old javelin thrower, was selected as part of the GB Team to take part in the World Dwarf Games in August 2017. Young & Talented Cornwall recognised Abigail’s exceptional talent and financially supported her with a grant of £1000 to take part in the Games being held in Canada.

Barnaby crowned UK Under 18s Pro Surf Champion with help from Young & Talented Cornwall

In early 2018 Barnaby Cox, one of the UK’s top up and coming surfers, was awarded £1,250 to support his equipment and competition costs. In the same year, Barnaby won the UK Pro Surf Tour Under 18s Championship.

Young musician Cathryn gets grant to buy new Tenor Horn

Young & Talented Cornwall awarded Cathryn £750 towards the purchase of a Besson Prestige Tenor Horn. "I can now confidently play on an instrument that meets my abilities. I can now move forward to start to train as a professional musician.”
