With support from Young & Talented Cornwall, skeet shooter Denzil Grose has enjoyed a remarkable year, achieving international success and setting a new Junior World Record.

In 2024, Denzil received a £2,000 grant from Young & Talented Cornwall to help cover the costs of specialist training and competing in key events that would support his goal of earning selection for future Olympic competition.

The funding enabled Denzil to increase his training, helping him build consistency and improve his scores. Those improvements translated into strong performances in domestic competitions, allowing him to qualify for a series of prestigious international events.

Over the past year, Denzil has represented Great Britain at competitions across the world, including a World Cup in Germany, the European Championships in Italy, another World Cup in Italy, the Spanish Grand Prix and the World Championships in Peru.

His hard work culminated in an outstanding performance at the ISSF Official Junior World Cup in Cairo, where he claimed gold in the men’s skeet event and set a new Junior World Record—an incredible achievement and a testament to his dedication, talent and determination.

Reflecting on the impact of the grant, Denzil said:

“Without the help I wouldn’t have been able to train as much as I did to improve my score, meaning that I wouldn’t have qualified for any internationals or won any medals. Without the help, literally everything I have achieved this year would not have been possible.”

Denzil’s achievements demonstrate the transformative impact that Young & Talented Cornwall funding can have, enabling talented young athletes to access the training and competitive opportunities they need to reach their potential.

We are incredibly proud to have supported Denzil on his journey and look forward to following his continued success as he pursues his ambitions on the international stage and works towards his Olympic dream.
