Ellie dashes to gold for Great Britain at World University Championships

Young & Talented Cornwall rower Ellie Dash has celebrated a remarkable international achievement, winning gold alongside teammate Molly Curry at the FISU World University Championships in London, Canada.

Ellie was selected to represent Great Britain at the prestigious championships, competing in the women’s double alongside Molly Curry from Queen’s University Belfast.

The pair arrived at the championships feeling understandably nervous, but a strong performance in their heat quickly gave them confidence that a medal could be within reach.

After trailing the field, Ellie and Molly produced a powerful finish, winning their heat in the final 50 metres of the race and securing their place in Saturday’s final.

And they went one better in the final.

The pair led from the start, holding off strong challenges from the Italian and German crews. With another determined push towards the finish, Ellie and Molly crossed the line with clear water between them and their rivals to claim gold and the title of University Champions.

For Ellie, the result was particularly special as it marked her first international medal.

“It was utterly incredible to lead out an international field and as my first international medal feels extra special! I am extremely grateful to young and talented whose support helped me pay for my seat and have this experience!”

 

Representing Great Britain on the international stage is a huge achievement, and Ellie’s gold medal is a fantastic reward for the dedication, training and hard work she has put into her sport.
