Tristan Babb is taking things in his stride

Tristan Babb from Bodmin is one of our inspirational Young & Talented Cornwall award recipients from 2023.

Tristan has updated us that the award has been used towards the purchase of essential equipment and supports his travelling expenses and training.

With two Pentathlon GB Team appearances in 2023 (at the European & World Championships), Tristan was invited to a Pentathlon GB “Talent ID” event in March 2024 and made further selection into a group invited to compete against current GB Olympic Pathway athletes in April. Pentathlon GB is a programme which enables and searches for young people with potential to represent Great Britain on the Olympic stage.

So why did Tristan choose to compete in Pentathlon?

He said: “Having enjoyed success at Primary School Cross Country events and School Athletics I progressed to competing at Pony Club Triathlons (which includes running, shooting and swimming) and qualified for the National Winter Triathlon finals in 2019 & 2022. I also decided to have a go at Triathlons at the same time making the podium at most events and coming 2nd overall in the Cornish Triathlon series in 2021.”

“Combining the different elements of triathlon & pony club triathlon has taken me to modern pentathlon qualifying for Team GB competing at the European Championships in June 2023 and qualifying for Team GB competing at the world championships taking place in bali in November 2023.”
