Young & Talented Cornwall grants over £19,000 to Cornwall’s bright young talent

Young & Talented Cornwall (Y&TC), recently held a grants panel awarding more than £19,000 to fifteen of Cornwall’s rising stars. Young & Talented Cornwall, supports exceptionally talented young Cornish people undertaking a range of activities including sport, the arts, science and music. The fund seeks to provide grants to the county’s brightest prospects who otherwise lack the means to pursue their dreams fully.
In this recent round of grants, recipients ranged from athletes to racing kart drivers and ballet dancers to triple-threat performers; with the grants ranging from £500 to £2,500, which will go towards recipients training, kit, equipment and travel costs.
Melissa Jane, a new recipient of the Young & Talented Cornwall fund received £1,500 for her talent in sabre fencing, a sport which combines power, agility, coordination and muscular endurance as well as great mental strength. Melissa is currently ranked 2nd in Great Britain (under 17s), and has been selected to represent Great Britain in the European Championships. The grant will be used towards purchasing the kit and equipment needed to compete as well as travel to and from future competitions.
Another new recipient of Y&TC is Chloe Scott, a talented archer who currently sits as the under 14’s Indoor National Champion and is training on the national talent development programme with ArcheryGB. Young & Talented Cornwall awarded Chloe £2,500 to cover travelling costs to and from training and competitions.
Colonel Edward Bolitho OBE, Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, who heads up Young & Talented Cornwall said, “It is incredibly uplifting to hear about all the amazing talent so abundant in our young people in Cornwall. The grants that we have awarded are richly deserved and will make a huge difference to helping the next generation of Cornish superstars reach their potential. These bright young minds are our future; celebrating, supporting and giving them a financial boost is vitally important and I am honoured that the Lord Lieutenants Fund can play a role.”
Other recipients include racing kart driver Amelia Nelson, triple threat performer Kira Lomas, badminton player Cara Collins and ballet dancer Jamie Constance.
